 While every option for parking your RV has it’s pro’s and con’s, gravel or concrete will typically be the best option for you. Parking your RV on grass will kill it and both grass and dirt has oils that can deteriorate your tires over time. Not to mention parking on grass for an extended time will eventually lead to insects and critters making nests.

Some people say concrete isn’t good for your tires either because the materials in your tires and in the concrete react with each other. If this is something you are worried about, you can always place something in between your tires and the concrete, such as a chock block.

If you don’t want concrete, gravel or crushed concrete should be your next option. Gravel is just as durable, although it will need to be replenished over time. Keep in mind gravel may not give you as much stability for your stabilizers and jacks.

Wherever you park your RV, you want to make sure you have good drainage from rain. Concrete or gravel would again be the best option, as dirt or grass would just get really muddy. Concrete also gives a solid firm surface for stabilizers and jacks.

While it is the most expensive, concrete is super strong and durable, as it can last for many years. Gravel or crushed rock (such as limestone) would also be durable and give room for water to drain. Make sure you pack down any gravel or crushed rock so it doesn’t harm or damage your tires.

Can You Park An RV On Gravel?

You can absolutely park your RV on gravel! While it isn’t as ideal as a concrete pad, it is a cheaper option that is still durable. Gravel will last for years, although it will eventually need replenished at some point. Gravel is also great for water drainage, and gives you tires a good grip.

If you are going to park your RV on gravel, you may want to place some concrete slabs underneath your tires for some extra support and to protect your tires from sharp pieces of stone. You may also want to place some concrete stones under your stabilizers or jacks you use to support your RV.

Also be sure you have a surface fully covered with gravel. Over time, gravel will shift from place to place revealing some dirt. If your tires become exposed to dirt, grass, or weeds it will eventually begin to dry rot or get damage from moisture. You will want to regularly move around the gravel and pull or spray for weeds.

Depending on your kind of soil, you will want to use different types of gravel. But regardless of your kind of gravel or crushed rock, you will want it to be a thick layer of gravel to prevent shifting and revealing of dirt. You will want to dig down about 6″, and fill with crushed rock up to 4 inches. Then compact well, and fill the rest with your gravel of choice.

You will want to do some research to find the best gravel for you. You can ask other RV owners or inquire at your local hardware store on the best types of gravel to use for driveways or specifically for RV parking.
